Below is a selection of roads for this area. I have not driven every road in the area, and not every road I drive is worthy of ending up on this list. If there are any roads that you feel should be listed and don't see below, let me know.

In an attempt to better explain what the road is like, I have also developed a rating system for the roads I drive. These reviews are based on personal preference and perspective, but hopefully they will help you decide which route(s) to take on your next drive.

Fun . . . . . . . . (1-5, 5 being best)
Difficulty . . . . .(Low, Medium, High)
Traffic . . . . . . (None, Light, Medium, High)
Driveways . . . .(Amount of driveways & cross traffic; None, Light, Medium, High)
Condition . . . . (Road & surface condition; Poor, Fair, Good)

In the area around San Francisco Bay it can be difficult to find roads that don't have too much traffic. It's not quite as bas as Southern California but not exactly desolate like the Northern part of the State.

The good news is that you don't have to get too far away from the developed areas for the traffic to drop off, especially North of the Bay in Marin and Sonoma Counties. While PCH through Big Sur is the better known road, Hwy. 1 running North of Sausalito has less traffic, views at least equal to the Southern section, and great stretches of pavement.

Click on the road you wish to view, or you can also click on the adjacent areas to be taken to that page.
