Highway 58 between Hwy. 33 and the 5 Freeway isn't very long, and isn't the most fun around, but it serves as a cut-through between Buttonwillow and the freeway and the fun part of 58 west of the 33. I had not been on this portion of road before, as I usually head west on the 58 from the 33 instead of heading north. But on a recent outing to Buttonwillow Raceway the group I was with took this path and I was able to try it out.

The majority of this road is straight, with the western section pretty desolate and the eastern section heading through the town of Buttonwillow before meeting up with the 5. The western section can be taken pretty quickly if you feel so inclined, but the closer to town you get the more traffic and driveways you will find.

The best part of this road, and the reason I chose to list hit here, is the 2-mile section closest to the 33 at the western end. As shown in blue on the lower map at right, this is a very fun little stretch of road that runs up and over a small section of hills. While very short, the combination of tight corners, high-speed sweepers, and some elevation changes make this a fun diversion if headed to or from the freeway.
